This article outlines the different methods for menu design and the types of rewards Paytronix supports for each. This is applicable for all POS and Online Ordering integrations that utilize Paytronix Check Service.

Overview

There are several common methods to configure a menu. Paytronix supports each method to varying degrees for product-based reward redemption. This article outlines the different methods for menu design and the types of rewards Paytronix supports for each. This is applicable for all POS and Online Ordering integrations that utilize the Paytronix Check Service.
The loyalty reward redemption capability associated with each structure is one consideration. Many other functional, operational and reporting considerations go into selecting the best menu structure for your brand.

Before You Start

The content of this article applies to POS and Online Ordering providers that integrate with Paytronix for reward redemption via the Check Service. This is a list of the most commonly used POS systems among Paytronix clients that utilize the check service:

  • Toast

  • Revel

  • Micros Simphony

  • Verifone Commander

  • NCR Radiant

  • Gilbarco

  • Paytronix Online Ordering

  • OlO (not all mutual clients are on the Check Service integration, verify with OlO)

Menu Configurations

As an example, let’s use a pizza brand that wants to offer a small, medium or large cheese pizza, with a selection of toppings that carry additional cost.

They have several options on how to configure their menu to meet this need:

Method A – Separate Menu Items by Size

  • Menu is broken out by size and pizza type (3 separate menu items for each Cheese Pizza size):

    • Item ID 123 - Small Cheese Pizza ($14)

    • Item ID 124 - Medium Cheese Pizza ($17)

    • Item ID 125 - Large Cheese Pizza ($20)

  • In this method the base item is carrying cost, additional toppings available as optional modifiers:

    • Modifier ID 5555 - Pepperoni ($3)

    • Modifier ID 5556 - Bacon ($4)

Method B – Base Item Priced as Small with Size Upgrades:

Menu is broken out by pizza type only (1 menu item called Cheese Pizza):

  • Item ID 123 - Cheese Pizza ($14) with required modifier:

    • Modifier ID 4444 - Small ($0)

    • Modifier ID 4445 - Medium ($3)

    • Modifier ID 4446 - Large ($6)

  • In this method the base item and the required size modifier is carrying cost, additional toppings available as optional modifiers:

    • Modifier ID 5555 - Pepperoni ($3)

    • Modifier ID 5556 - Bacon ($4)

Method C - $0 Base Item price with Size Upgrades:

Menu is broken out by pizza type only (1 menu item called Cheese Pizza) with base item cost being $0:

  • Item ID 123 - Cheese Pizza ($0) with required modifier:

    • Modifier ID 4444 - Small ($14)

    • Modifier ID 4445 - Medium ($17)

    • Modifier ID 4446 - Large ($20)

  • In this method the required size modifier is carrying cost, additional toppings available as optional modifiers:

    • Modifier ID 5555 - Pepperoni ($3)

    • Modifier ID 5556 - Bacon ($4)

It is recommended that whichever menu configuration method you choose, it should be consistent between your in-store and online ordering menus. Paytronix can support different IDs for in-store and online if both menus are built with the same method, but cannot support different methods of menu configuration for the same reward. Different menu structures for online and in-store would either limit reward redemption to one of those channels, or result in needing to create Online and In-store specific rewards, which create a confusing guest and operational experience, reporting issues and over-discounting.
