How do I Set up an eGift Promotion?

Need to setup an eGift promotion? This article outlines the process to request the enablement of an eGift promotion.

Updated over 2 months ago

Overview

This article is for clients that have an existing eGift platform with Paytronix. If you are not currently signed for our eGift platform, please contact your Account Manager to begin that process.

Capabilities

Paytronix can enable 1 of the following promotions for your eGift program for the holiday season:

  1. A discount to the purchaser once a purchase threshold has been exceeded:

    1. A fixed % off based on the total price of the order. Example: 10% off once the guest spends $100 total dollars

    2. A fixed dollar off based on the total price of the order. Example: $5 off once the guest spends over $75

    3. A recursive fixed dollar off based on the total price of the order with a cap. Example: $5 off every $75 the guest spends up to a total of $50 in discounts

    4. A bounce-back card once a purchase threshold has been exceeded Example: A $10 bonus card for every $75 spent. (See Promo 1 in the below image)

    5. Stack bounce-back promos as long as the threshold amounts are divisible by one another. Example: $10 bonus card for every $75 spent and $25 worth of bonus cards for $150 spent (See Promo 2 in the below image)

Stacked chart showing bounce back card promotions

Note: We cannot combine bonus cards. In this example (See Promo 2 in the above image), the customer would receive (2) $10 cards for passing the $75 twice and (1) $5 card for passing the $150 threshold once and not (1) $25 bonus card.

To further exemplify this, the stacking of this promo would work no matter how much the customer spends. The below example demonstrates if the guest spent $300 they would receive $50 worth of bonus cards

Example of $5 promo that works no matter how much the customer spends

    6. Set a "Max Times Promotion Applicable" to limit how many bonus cards are issued. Example: A $10 bonus card is issued for every $75 spent with the "Max Times Promotion Applicable" set 1:

Chart showing max times promotion applicable
  2. A gift to the purchaser once a purchase threshold has been exceeded (provided you are signed for comp or loyalty) that can optionally expire on a relative or explicit expiration date"

    1. A free item (based on your existing rewards) based on total price of the order Example: A free burger if the purchaser spends $100 or A free burger for every $100 the purchaser spends, up to a total of 3 free burgers if the guest spends $300

    2. Fixed dollar (i.e. $5 off the whole check) or fixed percentage off the check (i.e. 10% off the check). Example: 10% off the check if the purchaser spends $100 or $5 off the check for every $100 the purchaser spends, up to a total of 3 $5 off the check bonus cards if the guest spends $300

    3. The purchaser will get one email with a list of card numbers that have the bonus(es) loaded, one bonus per card number

Limitations

We cannot stack bounce-back card promos if the threshold amounts are not divisible. Below is a visualization of a promo request for a buy $50 get $5 and a buy $70 get $20 promos stacked:

Example chart of a stacked promotion that fails

At first glance this promo looks like it would work, however, unlike the example above where the promo worked even if the guest spends $300, if we examine (below) what happens when a guest spends $150 we see where the problem arises:

Example chart of where spend threshold was exceeded twice

Here we would expect the customer to receive $30 in bonus cards for spending $150, because the $75 threshold was exceeded twice. Instead, we see that the customer would receive $45 dollars in bonus cards because the $75 dollar spend threshold has been exceeded twice and the $50 spend threshold is exceeded three times.

How should I promote this to my guests?

If you are a messaging customer, you can send an email to your guests announcing the promotion as you would send any other promotional email.

Paytronix also recommends that you make changes to your main website (not the eGift page) so that when guests are interacting with your brand, they are notified of these changes and directed to the gift card pages

What is the cost to set up one of these promotions?

A typical eGift promotion will be completed in short enough time that there would be no cost to setting up a promotion. More complex promotions may incur a 1-hour work fee ($175).

How do I test this promotion?

There are a lot of moving parts to an eGift promotion, and it is strongly recommended to arrange a testing period before the promotion goes live to ensure a smooth deployment. The Technical Support representative that is working with you on your eGift promotion will also provide step-by-step instructions to test the promotion to ensure everything is working as desired, well before go-live.

Important Note: UAT is required for a promotion to go live. If UAT is not completed and signed off by the go-live date, your promotion will be put on hold until UAT is completed. Promotions that go live on a Monday, will need completed UAT by 12:00PM ET the Friday before. If UAT is not completed, we will need to push the go live to Tuesday. This ensures the promotion does not go live with any issues.

How quickly can I get this setup?

Typically, new eGift promotions take 3 business days to setup once requirements are complete and valid. We will give you an update to the lead time within one business day once you have submitted the completed requirements. During busy season, September - December, promotions can take up to 5 business days.

Can Paytronix update the eGift Emails?

Any eGift email changes should use long term language. EX: To check the balance or expiration date of your card, visit: https:clientname.myguestaccount.com/checkbalance. Paytronix will not add expiration/redemption dates to any emails. These types of requirements, expiration/redemption dates, should be added to the promotion card art.
