Limitations to Throughput

This code has throughput limits, so we recommend it only for programs that have less than 30,000 SMS subscribers. Customers with larger SMS subscriber bases can use this code type, but may experience throughput issues as enforced by the carriers.

Recommended to customers with >30,000 subscribers, with no limitations

Options for Customizing the Code

You can choose the area code of this number (617 in the example above). You should choose a few area codes in case your first option isn’t available.

No customization is available.

You get to choose your preferred code, based on the available list from the short code registry.

Configuration Timeline

10DLCs have a quicker go-live timeline than short codes. They have some more specific information required in the provisioning form and less flexibility in the language required on the enrollment page. We have been able to bring long codes live in as little as 2 weeks, and usually, it is completed between 2 and 8 weeks once the customer submits a provisioning form.

We expect it to take about 4-5 months to get a short code live once the provisioning form is submitted.

Other Notes

This code is cheaper and quicker to provision.

This code takes longer to provision but is easier for guests to type in, especially when using Text-to-Enroll to join the program.

What are the features of SMS?

Once you’ve figured out which type of code the customer needs, the next decision point is which SMS features they’ll be using. There are a few types of features to use, and some require more setup than others. Note that SMS can only be set up and tested in the production environment.

Feature

Notes

SMS Campaign Opt-in and Triggered Messaging

These are the features that come standard with every SMS setup. They make it easy to enroll your guests in SMS messaging and contact them via SMS. This feature includes the SMS Opt-In text box on the guest website and the ability to send out messages via the campaign center. All “default” SMS configurations and settings include this setup/feature.
The example image below is added to the guest website registration page for SMS Opt-in.

Text to Enroll / Text to Join

This feature allows customers to sign up for a loyalty program via SMS. Typically they’ll text their email address into the customer’s short or long code and receive a confirmation text and an email about how to finish signing up.

Text to Enroll from POS

This feature lets customers give their number to a server, who types it into the POS. Then the guest will receive a confirmation text and instructions about how to finish signing up. This is only available with certain POS systems, including Micros, Aloha, rPower, Revel, Cake, and OneDine.

Text-to-Check in

This feature makes use of the check-in functionality at the POS. Customers text a store-specific code to the brand’s short or long code and receive a short number code in response that can be used in place of their card number. Store staff can then use the Check In button at the POS to attach their loyalty card to the check and/or use the check-in code in place of a card number. This feature should work with any POS that supports a short code in place of a card number. This includes most POS systems but does not include Brink.

How do I submit a provisioning form?

You should be able to fill out the provisioning form to request that this feature be enabled or configured, as you are now aware of the specifics of SMS's functionality and cost. If you have any other questions regarding SMS, please contact our Paytronix Support team at [email protected].
