How do Subscriptions work and what is needed to setup?

his article provides information about how subscriptions work in Paytronix and what you need to make subscriptions live.

Overview

Subscriptions is a feature available with our loyalty program that charges guests a monthly fee for “unlimited” redemption of one reward. For example, a guest who joins the MJF’s coffee subscription program can pay to receive unlimited coffee every month.

A loyalty member can sign-up for a subscription by logging into their loyalty account on the guest website, navigating to the Subscriptions sign up page, and entering their credit card information. Their credit card will be charged and the Subscription benefits will be added to their card instantaneously. After signing up, they can redeem Subscription benefits in the same ways and places they would redeem loyalty rewards. They can manage their subscription and cancel at any time via the guest website to automatically cancel their subscription and all recurring payments associated with it.

This document assumes you are a loyalty and messaging customer. If you are not, please contact your Account Manager to add those services before proceeding with subscriptions.

Capabilities

Subscriptions allow guests to opt into a Monthly subscription that awards the guest a single reward, to be redeemed throughout the month they have purchased their membership. You are able to configure on a global basis the minimum amount of time between redemptions (for example, you wish to allow the guests to redeem a free coffee every 2 hours).

How does the renewal process work?

The guest’s credit card will be securely tokenized and kept on file, and the guest will be charged on a monthly basis.
If the credit card charge is declined, the guest will be notified by email and their subscription cancelled.

How does the cancellation process work?

If the guest decides to cancel their membership, they will need to log into the guest website to make the change. They will continue to receive full benefits of the subscription until the end of the month that was already paid for, but they will not be charged again. Once a guest has completed the cancellation process, they will receive an email confirming their cancellation. All future recurring payments will be canceled.


Configuration

To set this up, we will need a few things:

Paytronix Payments

You will need to configure Paytronix Payments to process payments for subscriptions. If you do not have Paytronix Payments configured or only have Paytronix Payments configured for Order & Delivery, please follow these steps to configure Paytronix Payments for subscriptions:

Email Creation

You will need to setup 4 emails in the Email Builder:

  • Enrollment (when a guest joins successfully)

  • Renewal (when a guest is charged each month)

  • Cancellation (when a guest cancels their subscription)

  • Payment Issue (when a guest can not be charged successfully after enrollment)

Subscription Reward

You will need to work with us to create a new single wallet for the reward the guest receives for their subscription, and to tell us what is the minimum amount of time to configure between redemptions. We must make a new wallet, rather than use an existing one.

Website Branding

The subscription pages are part of the existing guest web site and can be modified using the same tool the rest of the guest website can be modified with. If you do not know how to do this, please email [email protected] and ask for a training on this self service tool.

How should I promote this to my guests?

You can send an email to your guests announcing the promotion as you would send any other promotional email
Paytronix also recommends that you make changes to your main website so that when guests are interacting with your brand, they are notified of these changes.

How quickly can I get this setup?

Typically, a new feature can take up to 7 business days to configure, once the payment processor is configured and the emails are marked as reviewed. When you submit the form below, we will update you to the current timeline.

Can subscriptions be added to our mobile app?

Yes, to add subscriptions to your app it does require a mobile app update. To request adding subscriptions to your app, please complete the Paytronix Branded App Asset Submission Form.
