What are double points?

A double points promotion is a great way to incentivize customers to visit your business. Among merchants, these campaigns are popular because they’re easy for members to understand and they offer excellent results.

A double points promo offers customers double the amount of loyalty points they would normally earn when making a purchase. Instead of earning one point per dollar spent, customers would earn two points per dollar spent during the campaign period.

Offering double points can create a sense of excitement and urgency among your customers and motivate them to make a purchase. Historically, double points drive engagement, sales, and loyalty.

Setting up double points

These are the steps to set up a double points campaign.

You can run a double points campaign through the Campaign Center on the PXS.

First, reach out to the Paytronix Customer Success team, as some configuration is required. Our team member will set up two items:

  • An internal wallet that’s used to flag eligible accounts

  • A wallet tracking rule that ensures double points are issued only on eligible transactions

Once the above work is completed in the PXS, your team can begin testing.

Preparing to test double points

To test your campaign, first visit Customer Service > Account Lookup.

Next, look up the account you plan to use for testing. This can be any customer account.

Once you submit, you’ll be taken to the Customer Account Services page.

Now, you can select “Adjust Wallet,” and choose the name of the wallet from the dropdown menu. This may have a name like 2X Point Flag, or Double Points Flag. Your customer service representative will let you know the name of the wallet and can help with this process as well.

On the following page, you’ll want to make sure that the corporate store is selected. Leave the check number blank, and under activity type, select “add.” In the amount field, add the value “1.”

Testing double points

Testing the double points wallet is an essential step in confirming your campaign is working correctly. Run a few transactions through your POS using a test account, then manually verify that double the expected points appear on the account.

Test multiple loyalty accounts to confirm consistent behavior across different customer scenarios. To verify accuracy, check the transaction history in your system and compare point totals against expected values.

If double points are not applied correctly, contact Paytronix Support for further assistance.

Deploying double points

Once tested, your double points promotions are ready to be scheduled. Using the Campaigns feature on the PXS, you can easily select and activate the double points wallet for the eligible customer base. Use this walkthrough as a guide.

First, visit the campaign center by going to Marketing Tools > Campaign Center.

Select, “Create New Campaign,” and title your campaign in the field.

Under “Add Wallet,” select the name of your double points wallet, for example, 2x Points Flag.

Here, you can also confirm the expiration date for your campaign. This will save time, and prevent you from having to manually turn off the campaign.

To end the promotion at the end of the day it starts, select “0.” Selecting “1” will end the campaign on the following day.

Next, go to the “Message” segment of the campaign. Here you can select the email for your campaign.

Once you’ve selected the email, visit the segment tab. Here, you can select the segment(s) you want to receive your double points promotion.

There’s also the option to create a control group—that is a group of customers who will not receive the promotion. This could be a way to test the behavior of customers who do, and do not receive your campaign.

Scheduling your campaign

You are now ready to schedule and publish your campaign. Choose the date and time that you’d like your double points promotion to run.

Please be aware that all times in the PXS system are in Eastern Standard, so adjust accordingly if you need to. This process can be repeated whenever your team decides to run double points promotions.
