This article will walk you through how to setup payment methods to configure how your restaurant will accept payment for orders placed via Online Ordering

Updated over 2 months ago

Overview

Payment methods allow you to configure how your restaurant will accept payment for orders placed via Online Ordering. Online Ordering allows you to accept cash and credit cards.

To control how guests can pay for orders, start with the Order Payment settings page. You can get there by selecting the dashboard of the location you would like to set up.

Order and Delivery Dashboard

If you are already in the settings for your restaurant, you can select Order Payment from the Settings menu:

In-Person Payments

The first option you will need to set up is whether or not you will allow guests to pay in person. If the pay-in-person option is selected, guests will be able to place an order without paying for it when the order is placed. Guests will be able to select cash as a payment option, paying for their order when they pick it up, or upon delivery.

Pay In Person

Note: The Maximum Order Total can be set to require prepayment of larger orders via credit card. We recommend setting a limit to reduce the likelihood of fraud/prank/no-shows on in-person payments.

Credit Card Payments

If you'll accept credit card payments via Order + Delivery, you must select a payment gateway to handle credit card transactions. If you already have an account with a Credit Card Gateway, click on the arrow to select the one that you want to use. See Which Payment Gateways do you support for Online Ordering? for more information.

Credit Card

When you select your payment gateway, you will need to add information specific to that particular gateway. The example below shows the fields necessary for Authorize.Net but the fields will differ for each gateway. After selecting a Credit Card Gateway, you'll need to select which credit cards you accept as payment. Once you have completed this setup, the credit cards you accept for payment will appear on the checkout page when a guests place an order:

Tips

You'll need to specify if you will collect tips on takeout and delivery orders. When accepting tips for either type of order, the guest will have the option to enter a tip amount to charge to their credit card. You have two options on how to handle tips:

  1. Pre-authorize the guest's credit card and allow them to enter a tip when the order is picked up/delivered. If you choose this option you will have to log in to the Order + Delivery platform and manually enter tips after order completion.

  2. Require the guest to specify the tip when they place the order. With this option, you will not have to log in to manually enter tips after the order is complete, however guests will have to tip when they place the order.

Address Requirements

In order to reduce order fraud, you can require guests to enter a billing address when they place their order:

When you are finished making changes to your payment methods, click the Submit button. Your payment methods are now configured. If you've already turned ordering on, these changes will be available to your guests immediately.
